Religious Education

Hello everyone, I am Mrs Wilson and the RE Coordiator at Mansfield Primary Academy.

We GENERATE pupils to be respectful and develop an open mind towards different faiths and beliefs, encouraging them to develop their own sense of identify and belonging.

We ASPIRE children to develop the skills required to become responsible for their own understanding of religion and beliefs.

We work TOGETHER to share experiences and develop an understanding of religions and beliefs to become respectful citizens.

We encourage children to ENQUIRE about religions and faiths that are different to their own.

Intent

Our lessons promote moral, social, spiritual and cultural development of all pupils and enable children to develop knowledge and understanding of different religious beliefs, rituals and attitudes.

Our teaching of religious Education at Mansfield Primary Academy aims to ensure that pupils have the skills to understand a range of religious views, be able to express ideas and understand the impact of different religions and to express their own ideas and thoughts about the world in which we live.

Our RE lessons are intended to offer a broad and rich RE curriculum to allow for coverage of the areas prescribed; to allow for a variety of ways to explore religions, their community and personal development and wellbeing. The lessons have an intention of providing a high quality, coherent and progressive experience of the subject, with scope for cross-curricular learning. Through each unit, children will know about and understand a range of religions and world views. They will be able to identify, investigate and respond to a variety of  issues. SMSC, personal growth and community cohesion are featured throughout each non-statutory strand and are there to ensure opportunities for children to develop positive attitudes and values and to reflection and relate their learning RE to their own experiences. The intent is to make sure that children understand the relevance of RE in today’s modern world and how it affects our lives.

Implementation:

At Mansfield Primary Academy pupils learn about Christianity and other world religions.

EYFS: In the Foundation Stage, we aim to develop children’s sense of awareness about themselves and their community. Children will learn about Christianity and a selection of other religions including those they may find in their classroom.

KS1 and KS2-  Pupils will learn about Christianity, and explore a range of others religions and religious views throughout the year

Our RE Curriculum Map outlines which concepts are covered in each year group. Take a look at the document below.

Impact

The intended impact of teaching Religious Education at Mansfield Primary Academy is that pupils are equipped with extensive RE knowledge and vocabulary, have a passion for RE and a sense of curiosity to investigate different religions, understand the differences and similarities of different religions and are able to express themselves and become more spiritually, morally, socially and culturally aware.

Parental Right to Withdraw from Religious Education (RE)

We respect the rights of parents and carers regarding their child’s education. Under current legislation, parents and carers have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of Religious Education (RE) lessons. This includes activities related to Religious Education that do not form part of the statutory National Curriculum.

If you wish to exercise this right, we ask that you inform the school in writing, detailing whether you are withdrawing your child from all or specific parts of the RE curriculum. We are happy to discuss any concerns you may have and provide further information to help you make an informed decision.
