Design & Technology
Hi, I am Miss Marley- Year 1 Class Teacher and Design and Technology coordinator.
Intent
Opening the Mansfield GATE through Design and Technology
Children generate their own ideas through analysing and understanding current products.
Children aspire to be creative individuals who apply and make their own ideas.
Children work together to analyse and critique each other’s and real-world products to expand our knowledge and skills.
We encourage the children to delve and enquire how products are made and why we use them.
Implementation
Design & Technology will be taught in blocks throughout the year, so that children achieve depth in their learning. Plans build on prior learning, give opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in each unit and offer increasing challenge as children move through school. Clear differentiation is built into plans and the needs of all children are planned for, including those with Special educational needs and more able children. Design and Technology offers many opportunities for cross-curricular work. Teachers identify the opportunities in their planning to support the development of these skills.
Impact
Outcomes in topic books evidence a broad and balanced art and design curriculum and demonstrate the children’s acquisition of identified key knowledge. Children review the agreed successes, orally, at the end of every session and are actively encouraged to identify their own target areas, with support from their teachers. Children also record what they have learned comparative to their starting points at the end of every topic. Emphasis is placed on designing, making and evaluating, in which pupils look at various architects, inventions and products already in existance and use these to fuel their own ideas.
